“Cleveland” Going Prime Time

In November, Barack Obama became the first black man to win the White House.
Now, another historic milestone for the black community: The first black animated family on prime-time television.
Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud. Or maybe not.
Fox Television unveiled its first full-length trailer Monday for the “The Cleveland Show,” a spinoff of the uber-popular “Family Guy.” Like “Family Guy,” it looks hilarious. But also like “Family Guy,” it’s not for those with delicate sensibilities.
“Cleveland” and “Family Guy” treat political correctness like the plague — avoid it at all cost. In just a three-minute trailer, “Cleveland” could potentially offend black people, fat people, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Aniston’s fans and anthropomorphic bears. And that’s after it’s been highly edited for all audiences.
So for those with fragile constiutions, please beware. The trailer starts with Stewie saying, “Good-bye, chocolate people,” as Cleveland’s family drives away, and it only goes down from there.
But for those of you who can put aside your political correctness at 8:30 p.m. Sundays beginning this fall, I’m sure your viewing prize will be lots of laughter.
