For my blogs, I will be writing from Monday to Sunday. My reason for doing this is that Mondays are my weigh-in days. In my previous blog, I had written I had lost about 4 pounds. When I wrote that blog, I had not been weighed yet. I am happy to let you know that I am down 8 pounds since Jan. 5. My first official weigh-in and complete workout was Jan 5. I will always refer to Jan. 5 as my start date for here on out.
I have to say, I am starting to enjoy working out. I like the feeling I have when I am finished; it feels like my day is complete. I work at the Lutheran Memorial Home first shift, so I am unable to work out before I start my workday. After work I go straight to Tyra's (Weigh of Life) for my daily dose of "medicine." You know that old saying: "An apple a day, keeps the doctor away," well in my case, Tyra is the doctor and I better have had that apple for the day. Tyra is very straightforward with me, and I really need that. If I forget my food journal, she will quiz me on what I had to eat that day. I am very happy with Tyra as my trainer and I hope she is happy I am her trainee.
I went out Thursday evening for the first time since I have started my new way of life. Usually when I go out with friends, we go to dinner and then a local watering hole for cocktails. I'm a "Captain and Sprite type of girl," so it was very hard for me to switch to Michelob Ultra. I only had two beers; I think it's going to take awhile to get used, too. At dinner, I had a grilled chicken breast and a salad with fat-free dressing. I wanted chicken wings so bad I could scream, but the owner of the pub knew me and had read the article, so she would not let me order chicken wings. Thank you Kim, even though I was thinking bad things then, you saved me about 2,000 calories.
My family and friends are being very supportive. I have a few friends who think I signed up for the military and they are playing drill sergeant, watching every move I make. This includes every piece of food I pick up. I know they are only doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, so I just let them go. I'm still drinking my eight to nine bottles of water a day. It is starting to get a little easier. I still have that craving for a Diet Coke when I wake up in the morning, though.
I am also starting to adjust to eating breakfast within 30 minutes after I wake up. I was never a breakfast person, so eating when I wake up is a bit of a struggle for me. I don't seem to have a problem with no food after 7 p.m. and I really thought that I would. I used to have a snack after I put the kids to bed around 8. I have replaced the food with my journaling, and it keeps my mind busy.
I hope to hear some input from all you readers, so until till next stay healthy and keep warm.

By DD on Wed, 01/28/2009 - 09:09Kristin - Great job on making good choices on your night out! I also am a "Captain" girl and part of my diet included switching to Mich Ultra. However, it seemed to still cause some baggage in the belly area.... Went back to Captain and Diet Vernors and tummy went right back down. Just a thought for a try... Night outs are really tough - if you can manage those you have won most of the battle.
Mixing strength training and cardio is a winning combo for an exercise program! Keep up the good work!

By WOL on Tue, 01/27/2009 - 11:10To the comment made by HOPE...I know who you are and I won't mention your name because I am a Lady and it's what I would consider to be lady like, and besides I know you have a family and children. HOPE..when I cancelled my appointments with you I apologized to you at the time and if I forgot the appointment I apologized to you. I'm taking this time once again to apologize to you again...Hope these training sessions took place almost 4 years ago...I'm really surprised to read that I'm still on your mind. HOPE the great thing about the situation was I had to pay ahead, so you got paid if I showed up or not. HOPE..I realize that everyone won't always have nice things to say about me, and I'm OK with that, but please remember this is about Kristin, so please be supportive and positive for her. Once again I apologize!!!
